  • 1/4 cup maple sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat unsalted butter with maple sugar until combined. Add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy.
  3. Stir in pure maple syrup and maple extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  5. Chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling it out to about 1/8" thickness.
  6. Cut into maple leaf shapes and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. For the filling, beat together unsalted butter, powdered sugar, pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, maple extract, and salt until smooth.
  8. Assemble by spreading cream filling between two cookies.
