  • 2 and 1/3 cups (291g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup (130g) chopped pecans
  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter for icing
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup for icing
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • Pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a stand mixer or bowl, cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and mix well.
  3. Stir in maple syrup and extracts until combined. Gradually add dry ingredients and fold in chopped pecans.
  4. Cover and chill dough for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Roll dough into balls and bake on parchment-lined sheets for 12-13 minutes until lightly browned.
  6. Cool cookies before drizzling with maple icing made by melting butter with maple syrup and blending in confectioners’ sugar.
